Clean Up Games

Believe it or not, children like to clean, if clean-up is a game. The most effective strategy is to be ready before accidents happen. Eliminate the "UH-OH" factor. Have the clean up supplies in a convenient location. Teach your child how to be helpful. Gently supervise until your child knows the boundaries between helpful and not-so-helpful. Generally speaking: If your child is trying it's helpful ( you may need to stand near with an extra towel) Continue to encourage good hand washing and let your child spray clean after you pick up the poop accident.

Spray bottle always make clean up more fun.

Buy a small spay bottle that fits your child's small hands. practice outside or on mirrors with plain water. Be sure to fill with a non-toxic, child friendly cleaner.

Sing a clean up song.

It can be one you already know or an invented potty version. Here's one to the tune of "Old McDonald". Substitute your child's name for David:

Little David cleaned the mess.

E-I-E-I-O

With a wipe wipe here and a wipe wipe there.

E-I-E-I-O

Little David cleaned the mess.

E-I-E-I-O

Choose words to fit any situation:

Little David sprayed the spray.
Little David wiped the floor.
Little David pitched the trash.

Buy an inexpensive plastic wastebasket with a flip flap cover and draw a hungry face on the flap. Name your potty trash eating animal.
